KEEP THEM S.A.F.E. TRAINING FOR CHILDREN, PARENTS AND INSTRUCTORS
All of us want to keep kids safe. But what does that look like? At Strategos International, we spell it S.A.F.E. Our acronym sands for:
Why is awareness for children so important? Because, whether you are a child or an adult, you will win 100 percent of the fights you don't get into through sound judgement and situational awareness.
Although we demonstrate some simple gross motor skill techniques to fight back and escape during an abduction, our course focuses on preventing an incident by teaching kids to scan, avoiding and maintain distance.

OUR HISTORY, VISION AND MISSION
After the abduction, rape and murder of a Springfield, Mo., girl in 2014, Keep them S.A.F.E. was established. The first children we trained were our own. Since our founding, Keep Them S.A.F.E. has equipped children with the knowledge and tools to protect them from predators.
Educate, Equip, and Empower children to prevail during an abduction
What we believe
No one chooses to be a victim, but we can choose not to be helpless. Through preparation, we can prevent our children from become statistics.
S.A.F.E. for Kids instructors
Nick Spencer is the founder and president of Keep Them S.A.F.E. and a lead instructor and project manager for Strategos International. Previously, he served eight years in the U.S. Army, obtaining the rank of E6, staff sergeant. He served as a tactical PYSOP team leader, participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom and in peacekeeping operations in Bosnia. He spent seven years in law enforcement with the Blue Springs, Mo., Police Department, with duties including patrol, tactical response and training.
S.A.F.E. for Kids instructors have a mission to protect children and the experience to deliver practical, effective training. In addition, all instructors undergo a nationwide background check prior to being accepted. Any potential instructors with felonies or other hazardous offenses are not eligible to participate.
Our training is designed for children 5-13 years old, with a maximum size of 20 students.
During our 4-hour session, students will learn to:
Through scenario-based and hands-on training, our instructors will:
- Identify dangerous situations and environments
- Teach resistance and escape techniques
- Build self confidence
- Give parents peace of mind
- Provide child ID kits
- How to identify potential attackers and child predators
- How to avoid contact with perpetrators
- Ways to break free from abductors
Part 1: Awareness
Children and adults perceive danger differently. Strategos teaches kids to become aware of their surroundings and to understand the potential for danger, but not to live in fear.
Part 2: Personal protection
This session teaches kids simple techniques that even our youngest students can master. Children can’t win a prolonged conflict with an adult, so our goal is to teach them to fight just enough to escape an abductor.
Part 3: Scenarios
We put the training into practice with scenario-based testing that builds self-confidence and readiness.
ID kits for each student
Each student receives a ChildPrint ID Kit along with instructions for each parent or guardian. With the kit, parents can easily create a confidential and comprehensive record of their child’s personal and medical information for use in an emergency. It gives police a complete and accurate description, saving precious time and hastening the search for a missing child. In addition, ChildPrint includes two pages of important safety tips to help kids avoid dangerous situations.
